What is a money mule?
The FBI uses the term for a person who moves illegally obtained money for someone else. Some people know what they are doing; others are recruited through a false job or relationship and do not understand the scheme.
A request to receive money in your personal account, forward it elsewhere, and keep a share is a serious concern. The FBI advises against accepting jobs that require using your own bank account to transfer money.

Where to learn more and report
The FBI's money-mule resource explains recruitment patterns and directs reports to IC3. If you believe your account is involved in fraud, contact your financial institution through its official channel. Seek qualified advice for questions about your own legal circumstances.

A conversation worth having
Before accepting an unusual payment arrangement, slow down and talk it through with someone you trust. Write down what the person is asking you to do and why they say they cannot do it themselves.
Our role here is awareness and connection to reliable resources. We do not ask you to send account credentials, financial documents, or money to Love a Life to resolve a suspected scheme.
